APA Style Guide is the reference style used by Cambrian College for citing research sources.
The 7th edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA) is the most current and was used in the preparation of these pages. To the best of our knowledge, the contents of Cambrian College's APA pages are accurate.

This brief and convenient spiralbound manual covers the citation of all sources with examples and features references pages, cover pages, reports, and annotated sample papers. It uses diagrams, with lots of colour and generous use of white space, to facilitate students' understanding of a very technical and precise skill. Included in this edition are scenarios dealing with plagiarism; new examples of correct quoting and paraphrasing; a new research report on a timely topic, the local food movement in Canada; and revised information on citing sources and preparing reference entries.

This book that explains the basics of APA in simple, easy-to-understand language for non-native speakers of English, who are often unfamiliar with using references and formatting an essay in a particular method. This handbook presents the information in simplified terms with images and step-by-step instructions in ways that make sense to both native and non-native English speaking student writers. Additionally, this text discusses the concept of plagiarism, as well as how to find sources, evaluate the appropriateness of sources, and use sources in effective ways (e.g., how to integrate quotes, when to paraphrase, among others).

Begins with a video orientation to the APA Style website that covers all the free resources it has to offer, including detailed style and grammar guidelines, sample papers and references, and the APA Style blog.

The short answer is that writing styles were developed within specific domains. MLA style, which comes from the Modern Language Association, is used in the humanities in subjects such as English and other modern languages. APA Style, which comes from the American Psychological Association, is used in the behavioral sciences in subjects such as psychology, education, and nursing, and even in subjects like business and engineering.
