How to search for streaming videos & DVDs

To find just streaming videos and movies, use this Videos & streaming link. Choose academic streaming databases such as anatomy.tv (health), NFB Campus or Films on Demand (trades); for movie theatre movies try ACF Streaming and Criterion On-Demand.

NOTE: When you've found your movie, you may be faced with Renting or Buying the movie (NFB Campus). Merely ignore the buttons that say Rent or Buy. Just click the PLAY button on the movie screen.

McIntyre Streaming includes titles selected by library staff specifically for Cambrian College programs.
Indigenous Studies Portal Research Tool
The Indigenous Studies Portal (iPortal) is a database of full-text electronic resources such as articles, e-books, theses, government publications, videos, oral histories, and digitized archival documents and photographs. The iPortal content has a primary focus on Indigenous peoples of Canada with a secondary focus on North American materials and beyond.

Anyone can use the freely available materials in the iPortal but some resources are licensed and may only be available through the Cambrian Library by request.

This theme examines all aspects of policing in Canada, from crime prevention strategies to police-community relations and recent debates about defunding.
PTSD in the Military
According to the Canadian Mental Health Association, post-traumatic stress disorder is a mental illness that comes from exposure to trauma so intense that a person fears they will be killed, seriously injured or violated. This exposure could be directly experienced or witnessed by the victim. The traumatic experience imprints on the individual so profoundly that they continue to re-experience the trauma in the form of flashbacks and nightmares. Many Canadian soldiers exposed to combat will experience PTSD upon their return to the country. This theme examines the consequences for them and their loved ones, as well as initiatives providing support to those impacted by PTSD in the military.

War on Terror
The War on Terror, also known as the Global War on Terrorism and U.S. War on Terror, is an ongoing international military campaign launched by the United States government following the September 11, 2001 attacks. The targets of the campaign are primarily Sunni Islamic fundamentalist armed groups located throughout the Muslim world, with the most prominent groups being Al-Qaeda, the Islamic State, the Taliban, Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan, and the various franchise groups of the former two organizations.
Wrongful Convictions in Canada
"Wrongful convictions undermine the two prongs of the criminal justice system's legitimacy," states a 1992 report prepared by the Library of Parliament. "If someone is wrongfully convicted, that person is punished for an offence he or she did not commit and the actual perpetrator of the crime goes free." Each miscarriage of justice deals a blow to a society's confidence in the legal system, experts say. This theme put a spotlight on cases where the courts got it wrong.

A police force in Quebec has developed a unique training program for its officers, which involves immersing them into experiential situations. The purpose is to help officers when responding to situations where they face bias, marginalization, poverty, homelessness and even mental health crises. The program is proving to be so successful that other forces across the country are now looking to participate.

Defunding the Police: What Does it Mean?
Publication Date: 2020
The police killing of George Floyd in 2020 led to worldwide protests with many people calling for an end to police violence against Black people and for the defunding of police. Research done by the CBC over a 20 year period shows that Black and Indigenous people are disproportionately represented among fatalities in encounters with police. And a majority of the victims suffered from mental health issues. Advocates for reducing police budgets say the money should be given to organisations and social workers who will better address the root of the problem.
